Boulder:
We spent today in Boulder, Colorado, and I can’t say that I was super impressed with the city of Boulder itself. It is definitely worth your while to check it out, but don’t plan on spending an entire day. We walked down the pedestrian street, ate at a laid back restaurant, and saw some unique shops. And then we were done. Thankfully we had some other activities planned.
First up. Celestial Seasonings. They offer tours of the factory and tastings of several herbal teas. Who knew?! When we walked in, we were given an individual herbal tea sample that doubled as our ticket for the tour. While we waiting for our tour time, we were able to sample several of the teas, both hot and cold. The tasting/waiting area also has a ton of elaborate teapots that are more artistic than functional.
The tour was fantastic. You have to wear a hairnet because you are lead right to the factory floor. You could (but don’t!!) literally reach out and touch the conveyor belts. The first stop is the mint room. Wow ts is minty in that room! If you have any sinus issues, it will clear them right up. Then you get to see the tea being packaged and watch everyone on the production floor. Pretty cool if you ask me.
After the Celestial Seasonings tour, we went to a western art museum. Living in the Midwest, I obviously don’t get the opportunity to see a lot of western art, so it was pretty cool. There is an outdoor section filled with statues of nature and man. There are also some good photo ops such as a saddle that you can sit on (though be careful after the sun has been shining on it!) and a pedestal where you can be your own statue. Inside has a few more statues, but it is mainly paintings. I particularly liked a collection depicting cowboys doing stereotypical female chores such as cooking and cleaning. It was rather comical to me while showing how even tough cowboys had to take care of themselves and do all of the household chores.
